“SVT keeps the Shelby GT500 up-to-date and takes the muscle car performance to new heights,” said Jost Capito, Global Performance Vehicles Director and Motorsport Business Development. “We have encapsulated every aspect of the performance in this car – whether it is 0-60, top speed, race track, or quarter-mile times, and the daily driver will also find this car to fit perfectly with their needs.”
The 5.8-liter V8 aluminum block engine produces 650 hp and 600 lb.-ft. Of torque, making it the most powerful production V8 in the world. The 3.850-pound car is also exempt from the gas-feed tax.
Almost every part of the powertrain has been optimized to produce additional performance, including a new compressor, new drilled block and heads, updated camshaft profiles, a new carbon fiber drive shaft, and an improved clutch, transmission, and axle.
A larger, more efficient compressor that flows more air through the engine is the key to supporting the massive 650 hp. The new TVS series 2300 creates 2.3 liters displacement and is a unique design for the 5.8-liter engine.
The entire cooling system was clearly updated on the new 5.8-liter engine. It now includes a larger fan, fan hood with high-speed pressure relief doors, a more efficient charge air cooler, a high-current charge air pump, and a 36-percent charge air cooler heat exchanger.
